What Are Broadcast Groups?

In Broadcast, you can create customisable groups of schools to serve as your target audience for specific files. This allows you to send files efficiently without needing to upload the same document multiple times.

You can build groups in a few different ways, including creating one manually, copying an existing Broadcast or Nexus group, or importing a school list from a CSV.

How Broadcast Groups Work

Broadcast uses naming conventions to cleverly work out a file's audience. For more information on these naming rules, click here.

File Naming and Groups

When uploading a file or folder, if the start of the file/folder name matches a Broadcast Group name and is followed by an underscore _, all schools in that group will receive the file.

Example:

  • Broadcast Group: PriGroup (contains all primary schools in your LA)

  • File uploaded: PriGroup_Estimates.doc

  • Result: All schools in PriGroup will receive Estimates.doc.

Folders and Groups

Broadcast also recognises where the folder name matches a group name. For example, rather than uploading individual files with the group name in the filename, if you upload a folder named after a Broadcast Group (e.g., PriGroup), all schools in that group will receive every file in the folder.

Important Notes on Group Management

Adding Schools to a Group:

For security reasons, schools added to an existing group will not automatically receive files that were previously sent to that group. If you need them to see a file, you'll need to reupload it to them individually, or delete it from Broadcast and reupload it to the whole group again.

Removing Schools from a Group:

Removing a school does not automatically delete files previously sent to that school. To remove historical files, delete them from Broadcast and redistribute to the remaining schools in the group.
