When uploading into Broadcast, you can create folders within the LA view and upload directly into these folders, or you can create a folder structure outside of Broadcast using a ZIP, which can be uploaded.
If you choose the latter option, if the folders don't already exist, Broadcast will create that folder structure for you upon upload. If the folders exist already, Broadcast will skip the folder creation and upload your files into the relevant folder.
Below are some examples of the way this works
Uploading a ZIP - No Existing Broadcast Folders
The below example is what happens when a ZIP file is uploaded when the folders don't already exist in Broadcast.
For this example, the ZIP has three subfolders. Finance, 2020 and Finance 2020. Our files are in the Finance 2020 folder
If we upload this into Broadcast with none of those folders already in the system, they will be created at the point of upload, as shown in the screenshot below. Broadcast replicates the ZIP and creates a Finance folder, with a subfolder called 2020 and a Finance 2020 sub folder, containing our files.
Uploading a ZIP - Some Existing Folders
We can also upload a ZIP when only part of the structure is in Broadcast. In the example below. the Finance and 2020 folders already exist in the system.
This time, when we upload our ZIP, Broadcast checks for any existing folder structure. It recognises that the Finance folder already exists, with the 2020 subfolder, therefore it skips the creation of these folders and only creates the missing ones. The existing Finance and 2020 folders display a pencil icon, to show that they have been altered, with anything new displaying a plus.
Uploading a ZIP - Selecting the Incorrect Root Folder
You must ensure to select the correct root folder on upload, depending on the structure of your ZIP. For the previous example, the Finance folder was already saved inside the Uploaded Content folder. So, because our ZIP contained a Finance folder, we needed to ensure that we selected Uploaded Content as the source folder.
In the example below, rather than selecting the Uploaded Content folder, I selected the Finance folder (a common mistake, as the ZIP is called Finance). Notice how upon upload, because we have the wrong root folder selected, a new Finance folder has been created, with a new 2020 folder underneath, causing a duplicate.
This is because Broadcast is checking the Finance folder in the system for the ZIP structure you have. As there's no Finance folder IN the Finance folder, it's created one, therefore you're left with duplicates.
To avoid duplicates, you must make sure you have the correct root folder selected if uploading a ZIP with a matching folder structure to what's already in Broadcast.
